Port Jervis, NY
The city of Port Jervis sits on the north bank of the Delaware River in western Orange County, NY, at the state line between New York and Pennsylvania. Port Jervis covers a land area of 2.5 square miles north of the Delaware River Gap, home to a population of roughly 8,600 people.
First settled around 1690, Port Jervis became a village in 1853 and a city in 1907. The first rail line was completed in 1851, and after decades of prosperity the railroads went on the decline. Port Jervis today has adopted the motto, “Gateway to the Upper Delaware River,” as the city is connected by the Mid-Delaware Bridge to Matamoras, Pennsylvania. Thousands of travelers pass through Port Jervis every summer on their way to rafting, kayaking and canoeing.
