Scotchtown is a modest-sized hamlet in Orange County, NY, located within the town of Wallkill just east of Middletown next to Highland Lakes State Park. Scotchtown stretches across 4.2 square miles of land, home to a population of nearly 10,000 people.
The Mills Industrial Park is located in Scotchtown, notable as the original planned location for the Woodstock Festival in 1969. Walkill’s board, however, voted against holding the festival, forcing it to move to Bethel. Today the historic center of Scotchtown features a church and several other buildings, all close to the intersection of Scotchtown Road and Goshen Turnpike. Residential development covers much of the hamlet, interspersed with a number of small businesses. Michigan Corners makes up the southeast portion of the area.
